Alex Turner did not have much time for this album, yet it is still an important element for the year 2008. The opener and first single, The Age of the Understatement, starts with an acoustic guitar and violins ,which fits to Alex Turner's raw yet warm voice. None of the tracks reminds much of the Arctic Monkeys, except Separate and Ever Deadly, the 4th track on the album. This has some elements from the last couple of tracks on the Arctic Monkeys Favorite Worst Nightmare, released in April 2008. The last 4-5 tracks are dark, yet melodic tracks, which could have come straight out of a James Bond movie. Overall, the album is melodic, dark, "written for James Bond", and simply brilliant.
